The harbour is busy and your coin purse is small. In Penny Wharf, you buy cargo at one quay and trade it at another, trying to complete useful contracts before the market changes. Every purchase is a choice between a quick return and a more rewarding route.

Coins are resources, not a prize outside the game. A well-timed exchange can pay for your next journey, while holding too much cargo leaves you short of room.

A turn, in three moments

  1. Visit a quay

Move to a trading space and inspect the goods available.

  2. Make an exchange

Spend coin tokens on cargo or fulfil a matching contract.

  3. Balance your purse

Keep enough coins for another turn and count completed contracts at the end.

A NOTE FROM THE TABLE

A full hold is not always a flexible hold.

Suppose a cargo purchase would use most of your coins. Check the contract it helps, the route towards it and the resources left for another exchange. Penny Wharf gives a single purchase a longer shadow: you are preparing a trade as well as collecting a good.

For a longer harbour evening

This is Bavorexil’s choice for a fifth player and for groups who enjoy watching a limited purse change over several turns. Separate cargo, completed contracts and coin tokens on the table. Younger or less experienced players may appreciate seeing one entire exchange demonstrated first.

A table for two, with room to think.

Notes from other tables

A useful note describes a choice, a moment or a reason the game suited your group. Contributions are public opinions, not purchase verification.
